Last week at Purpose on Tap I had the privilege of hearing a message from Jim Reese, CEO of the Atlanta Mission. Here are a few thoughts after reflecting on his message:
- We all battle sin, period. There is not a single human on earth that doesn’t battle the temptation of sin. The sooner we come to terms with that, the easier it will be to fight the urge to “Clean our act up a little” before we are ready for God.
- There is no perfect time to allow God to work through us. He can use us right where we are today. We all have one or two small vices (or countless in my case) that we would like to clean up. Don’t let that be an excuse. God will meet us right where we are, ready to hold our hand as we battle our vices.
- Don’t worry about making the perfect plan, rather ask God to make the plan. God’s sovereignty is beyond human comprehension. Therefore, it is better to invite the holy spirit into your life and ask him to make the plan.
- None of us are actually worthy of God’s love. We are able to receive his love because of his Grace, not our good deeds.
King David, the author of the book of Psalms, was one of the Godliest men in history. If he battled and fell victim to sin, why would we expect to be any different? God can meet us and use us right where we are, sin and all.
